THE REQUIREMENTS
There are a few requirements companies must meet to be eligible for our program. You are eligible to participate if you:
- Have at least 15 full- or part-time permanent employees working in the United States*
- Have a facility or physical operation in the United States
- Have been in business for at least one year, at the program registration deadline
- Must be a nonprofit organization with 501 (c) 3 status**
- An organization may enter as a group of nonprofits or as an individual organization as long as each participating organization is a separate legal entity (separate subsidiary). Branch offices may not enter separately from their parent nonprofit unless they are separate legal entities.
*Disclaimer: The NonProfit Times reserves the right to determine a organization’s eligibility based on whether their organization principles and ethos align with the standards set forth by The NonProfit Times. The NonProfit Times and partners reserve the right to exclude any participant not aligning with the program’s intent and spirit. Organizations with 15-24 employees must have an 80% or higher survey response rate for credibility. Organizations having 25 or more employees must reach a 40% response rate for credibility.
**Organizations that fall under 501(c)(3), (c)(4) or (c)(6) can apply to compete for the Best Nonprofits To Work For with a few exceptions. Management support organizations and consultancies formed under a tax-exempt umbrella cannot compete for inclusion in the list. If an applicant falls into these areas, the editors have the right to exclude such organizations from consideration.

Participant Categories
An organization may enter as a group of nonprofits or as an individual organization as long as each participating organization is a separate legal entity (separate subsidiary). Branch offices may not enter separately from their parent nonprofit unless they are separate legal entities.
Example: The United Way may enter as the national nonprofit organization or it may enter as a separate local affiliate. Example: United Way Worldwide (national) or United Way of the Capital Region (local).
In addition, if an organization enters several of its subsidiaries as separate entries, and one or more of those organizations make the list, the winning organization(s) will be listed without mentioning the parent organization, even if the legal name of the entity includes the parent organization. We encourage companies to complete the registration form and survey process as one complete entity.
For example, if St Peter’s Health System – Spring Hill Clinic (Basking Ridge, NJ) and St Peter’s Health System – Maple Valley Physician’s Group (Morristown, NJ) make the list, they would simply be listed as Spring Hill Clinic – Basking Ridge, NJ and Maple Valley Physician’s Group – Morristown, NJ.
This naming requirement does not apply to affiliates of national organizations like the American Heart Association or United Way.

HERE’S HOW TO ENTER
There are three different ways companies can participate.
FIRST – As an individual organization possessing one Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).
SECOND – As the parent/holding organization of multiple organizations with one FEIN for all subsidiaries. The parent/holding organization must register with all eligible employees working for that parent/holding organization.
THIRD – Subsidiaries of a parent/holding organization may register separately if each subsidiary organization possesses a separate FEIN. If the organization has multiple facilities, branches, factories, offices or stores, all locations must be included in the survey if they operate under the same FEIN.

WHO TO INCLUDE
Include: When you participate, all of your current full- and part-time permanent employees working in the United States should be included. This means everyone…from the line-level employees all the way up to the executives and from the on-site workers to remote employees. If they physically work in the United States or work remotely and report to a supervisor in the United States, include them.
Exclude: Temporary, seasonal, per diem, PRN, 1099 employees, independent contractors, interns, volunteers, consultants, and employees sourced by other staffing entities.
